PURPOSE:To improve an electrostatic charge holding capability and to form stable electrostatic charge images by providing a heating device which heats the dielectric surface layer of a dielectric member to eliminate water stuck to the surface. CONSTITUTION:The heating device 6 which heats the dielectric surface layer 1b of a dielectric drum 1 consists of a halogen lamp 31 and a reflecting mirror 32 provided near the drum 1, and the device 6 heats the dielectric surface layer 1b on a base material 1a by thermic rays radiated from the lamp 1. Water stuck to the surface of the dielectric drum 1 is eliminated by this heating to keep the dielectric surface layer 1b in the high resistance state, and therefore, the electrostatic charge holding capability is improved to form stable electrostat ic charge images. Since the extension part 32a of the reflecting mirror 32 is brought into contact with an ion cartridge 2 thermally, another heating device which heats the ion cartridge is unnecessary. |
