PURPOSE:To reduce the power consumption of a laser beam printer and to prevent its life from becoming short by placing a laser beam printer in a preparatory state when a pseudo start signal is inputted, and placing the printer in a stand-by state a set time after printing operation. CONSTITUTION:When the pseudo start signal is inputted to a process controller 4 from a host controller 2 while the laser beam printer 1 is in the stand-by state, the controller 4 controls a xerography process device 5 to a state wherein a xerography process is advanced, controls the rotary polygon mirror of a polarizing device 6 to constant-speed rotation, and also controls a heat fixing device to fixing operation temperature. This state is the preparatory state. Then, the controller 4 is controlled to return to the stand-by state unless a print start signal is inputted from the controller a specific time after the preparatory state is re-entered after printing or after the preparatory state is entered with the pseudo start signal. Consequently, a fast printing time is shortened and the reduction in power consumption and prevention against the shortening of the life are attained. |
