PURPOSE:To obtain a cutting tool with good wearing resistance further with a long life, by forming a tip of the cutting tool by boron nitride further arranging a {100} interface of monocrystal boron nitride in a flank of a cutting edge part with the cutting direction being set to a <100> direction. CONSTITUTION:In the case of a cutting tool in which an iron system material of high hardness is used for cutting a mirror surface, an edge part for cutting equips a tip 14 formed on its ridgeline and a shank 11 holding this tip 14. The tip 14 is formed by monocrystal boron nitride. Here a flank 5 of the cutting edge part arranges a crystal {100} interface of the boron nitride. While the flank of the cutting edge part is constituted by setting the cutting direction as a <100> direction. Next, the flank in the cutting edge part of monocrystal boron nitride is formed by arranging the {100} interface and setting the cutting direction to the <100> direction, enabling the cutting tool, with an improved tool life, to be obtained.
