PURPOSE:A preventive or remedy for complications with diabetes that contains a highly unsaturated fatty acid of 18-22 carbon atoms, having a double bond in the omega-3 position, thus being readily taken in the cell membrane to enable the treatment for diabetes. CONSTITUTION:A preventive or remedy for complications with diabetes contains, as an active ingredient, a highly unsaturated fatty acid of 18-22 carbon atoms, having a double bond in the omega-3 position, such as eicosapentanoic acid and/or docosahexanoic acid or their esters. The fatty acids are included in the fat or oil of marine lives in large amounts and can be used as such or after purification. Further, it has very low toxicity and can be dosed in a variety of formulations. The dose is 1-5g/day based on the free fatty acid and is preferably given in portions twice or thrice a day.
