PURPOSE:To enable a backlash to be automatically compensated for, by a method wherein when the waiting period for printing in a dot printer performing 2- pass printing reached or exceeds a predetermined period of time, a paper is once fed backward, and is then fed forward by the same stepping amount as that in the backward feeding. CONSTITUTION:The printer performing 2-pass printing in which one row of dots are printed by two times of printing while feeding the paper (line feeding) by an amount equal to one half of the pitch of a plurality of printind pins, is provided with a means for monitoring the waiting period for printing. When the waiting period reaches or exceeds a predetermined period of time, the paper is once fed backward by a stepping amount, and is then fed forward (line feeding) by the same stepping amount, thereby compensating for the backlash, which is generated when cutting off the paper. The paper is cut off in the waiting period for printing. Performing the backlach compensating operation in the waiting period does not lower the printing speed. |
