<p>The wood-burning furnace with automatic stoking has a hopper for the wood (1), with an opening (8) in its front wall (2) at the bottom, reinforced at the edge and connected to a feed passage (9) leading to the firebox (10). A drive mechanism (13,14) in the hopper has a reciprocating ram (11) whose forward end fits in the opening, while a second mechanism moves the hopper side walls (3) adjacent to the front one to and fro towards the ram. The section (21) of the hopper floor adjacent to the front wall is nearly horizontal, or slopes downwards on both sides from the path of the ram. Each of the transporter members (15) on the sidewalls protrudes from them into the vessel at the end of its stroke. Above the ram is a member thrusting downwards and actuated by a third drive mechanism, pressing down on the working stroke of the ram so as to compress the wood in front of the opening.</p> |
