PURPOSE:To prevent transfer of unpurified water from an evaporating vessel to a condensing vessel in the case of occurrence of vibration or turning sideways and to eliminate requirement for an entrainment collector and bumping inhibitor by providing a diaphragm having both waterproofing effect and permeability for water vapor and separating the evaporating vessel from the condensing vessel. CONSTITUTION:A porous polytetrafluoroethylene sheet 3 is provided between an evaporating vessel 1 and a condensing vessel 2. Unpurified water fed from a water feeding port 5 is converted to steam by heating with a heater 4. The steam passes through the sheet 3 and is transferred to the condensing vessel 2, liquefied by being cooled by a metallic net 9 cooled by a fan 10, and is discharged from an outlet port 7 of purified water.
