PURPOSE:To obtain display quality having no colors at a white level and to realize a more easily visible black or blue level at a blck level in the case of a liquid crystal panel for a black and white display by optimizing the light transmission characteristic of a polarizing or reflecting plate or the spectral characteristic of reflection thereof. CONSTITUTION:The polarizing plates 18, 19 are dyed by a blue dye to obtain such spectral characteristic of the polarizing plates at which the white level having no colors can be realized for the light transmission characteristic in the visible light region of the liquid crystal panel of a transmission type if the spectral characteristic is assumed to have a yellow color in case of said panel. A method for providing an optional spectral characteristic to the plates 6, 7 is adopted or the reflecting plate 20 is colored in the case of the liquid crystal display panel of a reflection type. The plate 20 is formed by depositing by evaporation a thin film 22 of aluminum, etc. on one surface of a plastic film 21 having a rugged surface or adhering the thin film thereto, using such surface as a diffusion reflecting surface and forming a plastic layer 23 thereon for the purpose of reinforcement. The plastic layer 21 is colored blue to provide, for example, a blue reflecting characteristic thereto. |
