PRODUCTION OF JOINT BODY BETWEEN CERAMICS AND METALLIC MEMBER

PURPOSE:To obtain a titled joint body having high joint strength without deteriorating the quality of ceramics by joining a metallic member formed with a slight projection, by capacitor discharge type stud welding, onto a metallic piece joined on the ceramics. CONSTITUTION:The metallic plate 3 is joined by a suitable method onto a ceramic piece 1 by a suitable method. The metallic member such as a bolt 2 is imposed on the plate 3 and is subjected to capacitor discharge type stud welding by connecting the plate 3 and the bolt 2 to electrode. A circular conical build-up 20 and the slight end projection 21 suitable for stud welding are preliminarily provided to the welding surface of the bolt 2 in this stage. The projection 21 disappears and the arc is generated between the bolt 2 and the plate 3 when electricity is conducted to the electrodes in the stage of welding. The molten parts are thus brought into press contact with each other, by which the bolt and plate are welded. The bolt 2 and plate 3 are welded with substantial strength. The heat transfer to the plate 3 and the piece 1 is suppressed to a low level. As a result, the high joint strength between the bolt 2 and the piece 1 is obtd.
