METHOD FOR CONTROLLING WELDING BY IMAGE PROCESSING

PURPOSE:To control simultaneously a torch position and weld heat input with high reliability by picking up the image of the pattern in the isothermal line region of a weld zone and subjecting the pattern to image processing. CONSTITUTION:The temp. of the weld zone is detected by an image pickup device 2 provided with an IR camera 4, etc. The signal thereof is fed to an image processing unit 5 which compares the isothermal line pattern with a standard pattern and calculates the necessary rate of correction. The control signal is transmitted to a welding control panel 6 which corrects the torch position or the conditions for the weld heat input. The control panel compares the area of the isothermal line region in the detected pattern with the area of the preset isothermal line region and controls the quantity of heat input so as to make both areas substantially equal. The control of the heat input is executed by controlling the welding current, etc.
