PURPOSE:To simultaneously and independently record and reproduce video or sound signals on and from the maximum of N pieces magnetic tapes with one rotary cylinder, by providing N sets of magnetic heads in the rotary cylinder in a hierarchical condition. CONSTITUTION:Two sets of magnetic heads 7a and 7b are provided in a rotary cylinder 6 in a hierarchical condition and magnetic tapes 10a and 10b are loaded into the rotary cylinder 6 through tape posts 8a, 9a, 8b, and 9b. When the magnetic tapes 10a and 10b are loaded in such a way, video or sound signals can be recorded and reproduced on and from the magnetic tapes 10a and 10b simultaneously and independently. It is desirable to set the interval A between the magnetic heads 7a and 7b in such a way that a relation A>=B tanalpha is realized among the length B of the rotating locus 11a of the head, the angle alpha formed between the rotating locus 11a and magnetic tape 10a, and the interval A. |
