PURPOSE:To separate the titled compound useful as a raw material for the synthesis of physiologically active substances, in high efficiency, by preparing an aqueous medium containing a biocomponent and a compound obtained by the biochemical treatment of a specific carboxylic acid derivative, adjusting the pH of the medium to a specific level, and extracting the compound from the medium with an organic solvent. CONSTITUTION:An aqueous medium containing a biocomponent and two kinds of compounds obtained by the biochemical treatment of the carboxylic acid derivative of formula (R1 is alkyl, aralkyl or aryl; R2 and R3 are alkyl or H; n is 1 or 2) (e.g. S-acetyl-beta-mercaptoisobutyric acid methyl ester), is adjusted to <=5pH, and the objective carboxylic acid derivative is extracted with an organic solvent. |
