PURPOSE:To shorten the distance between coilers and to increase a coiling speed and the plate thickness coilable by providing a lap frame before and behind the mandrel of each coiler in the winding device of plural pieces of coilers in a series coiling alternately a rolling strip material. CONSTITUTION:In case of coiling a rolling strip material 1 by No.1 coiler 2, a mandrel (core rod) 5 of the coiler 2 is rotated at the prescribed speed and lap frames 16, 17 before and behind the core rod 5 are approached with mutual horizontal movement by cylinders 25, 26. And winding rolls 23a, 23b and 23c, 23d supported by each frame are brought into light contact with the outer periphery of the core rod 5 and rotated together with the core rod 5. The tip of a strip material 1 is introduced by a pinch roll 4 between the core rod 5 and roller 23a, then, and wound around the core rod 5. At the time of the necessary winding tension being secured after several layers of windings, frames 16, 17 are parted each other and a regular coiling work is started. No.2 coiler 2' is driven and prepared prior to the coiling completion of the coiler 2 and after the cutting and division of the preceding strip material, the following strip material is subjected to the rolling operation similarly as mentioned above.
