PURPOSE:To obtain the titled bacterium having tolerance to beta-lactam antibiotics, by cultivating a bacterium belonging to the genus Bifidobacterium in a rifampin- containing medium under an erobic conditions, selecting a strain having high a survival rate to beta-lactam antibiotics among multiplicated bacteria. CONSTITUTION:A bacterium belonging to the genus Bifidobacterium is cultivated under anaerobic conditions in a rifampin-containing medium obtained by adding rifampin to a medium where a bacterium belonging to the genus Bifidobacterium can be multiplicated. Among multiplicated bacteria belonging to the genus Bifidobacterium, having rifampin resistance, preferably among bacteria showing no pseudo-bacteriolytic phenomena in the resting phase of multiplication among the bacteria, a strain showing high survival rate when it is reacted with beta- lactam antibiotic is selected. A bacterium belonging to the genus Bifidobacterium having tolerance to beta-lactam antibiotics can be collected in high probability.
