This device comprises a base(11) defining a Y-shaped guide channel(12) and including a pair of branch guide passages(19, 20) for disengaged coupling element rows(13, 14) joined together in a joint passage(21) for mating the rows. The joint passage is narrow enough to prevent relative lateral movement of inter-engaged rows. A pair of coplanar guide wheels(22, 23) are rotatably mounted on the base at opposite sides of the joint passage for guiding the interengaged rows between them. Each wheel has peripheral teeth(24) engageable with the rows for feeding them through the channel. Two adjacent teeth project into the joint passage for holding between them opposite ends of a base portion(18) of the elements.
