NEW MATERIAL:The compound of formula I [R is residue of indole, isatin, indoline, 5-fluorouracil, pyrrolidine, or imidazole; R1 is H, acetyl, etc.; R2 is OH, (N-acetyl)amino, etc.; R3 is H or CH3] or when R2 is amino, its acid addition salt. EXAMPLE:6-Deoxy-6-indolyl-glucosamine hydrochloride. USE:An antitumor agent and immunopromoting agent. PREPARATION:The compound can be prepared by reacting the compound of formula II (X is Cl, Br, etc.; R1' is acetyl, benzyl, etc.; R2' is acetoxy, N-p-methoxybenzylideneamino, etc.; R3' is CH3, acetyl, etc.) [e.g. N-(p-methoxybenzylidene)- triacetyl-6-deoxy-6-iodoglucosamine, etc.] with the compound corresponding to the group R (e.g. indole) in the presence of a phase-transfer catalyst (preferably cetyldimethylbenzyl ammonium halide, etc.) in an alkaline aqueous solution and an organic solvent such as benzene.
