Local communications system with a star-type network

Local communications systems exist for different services. In PBX systems, >>telephony<< is of prime concern. Distributed processors communicate via data buses. The problem of implementing or including broadband services and the use of optical telecommunications at least in parts of such a system is still essentially unresolved. A local communications system according to the invention is designed for optical and/or electrical channels and offers enough flexibility to meet most of the sector-specific requirements for individual services but nevertheless to develop the integration of services. The components located between the subscriber stations are essentially passive. The network is designed with a star structure. Narrow and medium-band traffic is handled in a fully synchronous time division multiplex system with random access and high-speed circuit switching. In an intrinsically separate transportation of broadband services, their signalling is carried out as for narrowband services. Unauthorised access to time slots can be prevented through additional measures. <IMAGE>
