The invention relates to a tailgate for lorries or the like, having a platform whose lifting mechanism is coupled to a bearing component which is displaceably held in a sliding guide which runs in the direction of travel (longitudinal direction of the vehicle), the platform being capable of folding over and being accommodated under the chassis of the vehicle for the purpose of road travel (out-of-use position). The special feature consists in the fact that the bearing part (4) is supported on each side of the vehicle with a coupling point (43) in/on a sliding guide (71) and is hinged at a distance therefrom in a toggle-lever fashion to a link (9) which is fixedly mounted by its other end in relation to the chassis (5) of the vehicle, the hinge points (91, 8, 43) of the bearing unit which is formed from these two parts (4, 9) resting on the corner points of a V-angle whose angle is variable and this V-angle is braced in the two limit positions by means of a tensioning element (10) which is variable in length. <IMAGE>
