We provide amine salts of the general formula [wherein R1 represents an aliphatic hydrocarbyl group containing from 6 to 20 carbon atoms; R2 represents an aliphatic hydrocarbyl group containing from 1 to 20 carbon atoms; R3 represents a hydrogen atom or an alkyl group containing from 1 to 3 carbon atoms; and HX is selected from a range of organic acids], each of which possesses useful biocidal activity.
