PURPOSE:To produce the titled ultraviolet-screening, transparent, lowly colored polymer, by polymerizing a diethylene glcyol bisallyl carbonate (prepolymer) in the presence of a specified amount of a benzophenone ultraviolet absorber. CONSTITUTION:To diethylene glcyol bisallyl carbonate or its prepolymer, which is a viscous liquid, added is a benzophenone ultraviolet absorber (e.g., 2,4-dihydroxybenzophenone) in an amount ranging from one at which the transmittance of light at a wavelength of 380nm is 0% to one at which the transmittance of light at wavelength of 440nm is 90%, and the mixture is polymerized in the presence of 2-5wt% organic peroxide having a 10hr half life temperature <=80 deg.C (e.g., diisopropylperoxydicarbonate) as a radical polymerization initiator and, optionally, 0.05-5wt% organic peroxide having a 10hr half life temperature of 90-110 deg.C (e.g., t-butyl peroxybenzoate).
