Process for heating a wrapping (1) covering a packaged article (2), so that the wrapping (1) shrinks, the latter consisting of plastic which contracts under the effect of heat, in which process hot inflow air (ZUL) is applied to an annular zone (HZ) of the wrapping (1), and this zone (HZ) is gradually moved over the wrapping (1), especially from the bottom upwards, if appropriate the outgoing air (ABL) being returned. The hot spent air (GEL) flows along and near the zones (SZ) of the wrapping (1) which are not yet shrunk and which thus constitute preheating zones. <IMAGE>
