In order that a precisely determined quantity of water flows from the cold water container into the instant heater irrespective of the level of water in the cold water container during the entire brewing operation and the temperature of the heated water fed to the aroma exchanger is approximately constant, the cold water container is divided by a partition into two chambers. The chambers communicate with one another via at least one opening, one chamber communicating with the atmosphere and the instant heater.
