A process for producing a metallic protective coating on workpieces to be protected, inter alia, against high-temperature corrosion is described in which, for the protective coating, powdered brazing solder melting at temperatures from 1050 DEG C to 1250 DEG C is used and is applied to the surface of the workpiece in process steps specifically tailored to the material. Alternatively and as a variation on this process, it is also possible to incorporate, in addition, ceramic particles in the protective coating formed by said brazing solder.
