In a method for picking up and transporting flat articles, the latter are picked up in a first plane and are deposited in a second plane from the first. At least two is different of a plurality of articles provided in the first plane, each at a certain distance from one another, are picked up and deposited in the second plane at a different distance from one another. The device for picking up and transporting flat articles has at least two pick-up heads, which each exert a load on the surface facing them of one article. The pick-up heads are mounted such that they cannot rotate on a rotatably mounted turning shaft. Their longitudinal axes pointing towards the turning shaft display some excentricity in relation to the axis of rotation of the turning shaft. The pick-up heads are, in addition, mounted on the turning shaft so as to be displaceable in its longitudinal direction.
