Pipes (3a), which arrive unordered from the store, are to be sent separated and aligned by the loading apparatus to a machine (1) for the further processing of the said pipes. The unordered pipes are laid on a grid (20) as they arrive from the store. From there, they are accepted by a screw track (10), in such a way that there is one pipe for each turn of the screw. The pipes are moved through the screw track transversely to the machine and in a longitudinal direction up to the end of the track until they reach a stopping strip (12). In this way, the pipes are automatically transferred one at a time and in the working position to the machine for further processing. <IMAGE>
