To maintain extremely low room oxygen contents, special measures are necessary in the construction of cold room installations. In order to reduce the penetration of oxygen-rich external air by climatic effect in diurnal variation, pressure-compensation reservoirs are used. In order to maintain small reservoirs, temperature variations during defrosting in the air drying process must be kept small. Therefore, a stepper control of the air treatment elements is provided, as a result of which the temperature variations in the room are kept within very small limits. In addition, the compressor output is preselected stepwise via thermostats, depending on the external air. Air treatment elements not in the defrosting process compensate for the resulting heat. Furthermore, the suction pressure and condensation pressure are stabilised by special devices. The safety valves having differing opening characteristics for reduced pressure and overpressure in connection with room pressure compensation reservoirs are especially provided for protection of the gas barrier and the roof construction. An oxygen converter and ethylene filter are directly assigned to the CO2 absorber. To even out the room temperature, air sealing baffles are mounted between the air treatment elements to achieve an air conveying roller having the smallest possible air short circuit.
