Separation and recovery of carbon monoxide and unsaturated hydrocarbons using copper(I) complexes

Carbon monoxide, alkenes, alkynes or mixtures of these are removed from streams of charge material by a process which is characterised by bringing the stream of charge material into contact with a solution of copper(I) fluoroacetylacetonate in an organic solvent which contains a stabiliser, by first forming a copper(I) complex, decomposing the first copper (I) complex, the stabiliser replacing carbon monoxide, alkene or alkyne in the first copper(I) complex, in order to form a second copper(I) complex, and removing the replaced component. The formation of the second copper(I) complex avoids any precipitation of copper metal on heating.
