Metals or metalloids are separated off from gaseous mixtures, which result from reduction of compounds of these metals or metalloids, by the metal vapours or metalloid vapours being absorbed in solid or liquid metals or metal salts. The absorption proceeds under thermodynamic conditions under which the metal vapours or metalloid vapours are quantitatively absorbed directly from the gaseous state and the reconversion of which to the original reduced metal compounds or metalloid compounds is completely prevented. The solutions formed during the absorption are separated from the non-absorbed residual gas. The metals or metalloids are isolated in pure form from the solutions and the absorption medium is reused in the circular process. The residual gas is burnt in order to obtain at least some of the heat necessary for the reduction of the metal compounds or metalloid compounds.
|
