PURPOSE:To produce easily a metallic bar consisting of unidirectionally solidified structure by passing the metallic bar through a heating die which has a melting zone and of which the temp. on the inside wall surface of the outlet is maintained at the solidification temp. of the metal or above. CONSTITUTION:The spacing between pinch rolls 6 is adjusted in a way as not to prohibit expansion of the metallic bar 4. Electric current is fed to a power generating body 2 on the outside circumference of a heating die 1 to heat the untreated bar 4 in the die 1 and to form the melting zone. The pinch rolls 5, 6 are rotated in contact with the bar 4 and the bar 4 is moved in an arrow direction. The die 1 is heated in such a way that the temp. on the inside wall of the outlet thereof is maintained just above the solidification temp. of the metal constituting the bar 4, then the metal melted in the die 1 solidifies in the outlet and constitutes freshly a metallic bar 12 consisting of the unidirectionally solidified structure. The bar is cooled by cooling sprays 8. The surface layer of the bar 12 is coated with a liquid film 13 and the bar having the extremely smooth and beautiful surface is obtd.
