<p>A drive mechanism (10) for rotating a pair of tandem wheel assemblies (24, 26) journalled on a centrally pivoted tandem drive housing (16). A jointless elastomeric belt (82) extends about the wheel assemblies which are driven by two chains (32, 38) entrained over respective sprockets (34, 36, 40, 42) contained within the tandem drive housing. A planetary gear set (109) is effective to powerably drive both chains with a differential action to minimize the influence of the belt loading upon the chains. The planetary gear set and the sprockets are constructed to deliver a greater torque to the rear wheel assembly (24) than the front wheel assembly (26) through the chains.</p> |
