PURPOSE:To prevent a roller from being damaged by quickly detecting a failure in operation for hooking a yarn on a take-up bobbin and cutting the yarn to be supplied. CONSTITUTION:A photo-electric device 100 comprising a projected and a photo detecting device is disposed opposite to an empty bobbin B held on a cradle 12 in such a manner as to project light within the steady winding range of the empty bobbin. Light is projected from the projection and reflected on the peripheral surface of the bobbin. The reflected light is detected by the plate detecting device, and when yarn hooking operation is started, on the completion of confirming that a yarn is wound round the peripheral surface of the bobbin according to a change in the amount of detected light of the photo detecting device, continuously yarn hooking operation is conducted. Thus, a failure in yarn hooking can be found early to prevent a winder on a yarn hooking device from being damaged, and furthermore, it can cope with a failure in yarn hooking quickly so as to heighten operation efficiency in a large scale.
