<p>Novel 2-azetidinones of the formula <IMAGE> I wherein R is alkyl of 1 to 4 carbon atoms, R1 is selected from the group consisting of hydrogen, -OH, protected hydroxy and -OCH2-COOR', R' is selected from the group consisting of hydrogen and alkyl of 1 to 4 carbon atoms and R2 is selected from the group consisting of alkyl of 1 to 4 carbon atoms and hydroxyl protective group and a novel process and novel intermediates for their preparation and a process for the preparation of compounds of the formula <IMAGE> VII wherein R has the above definition, R'd is selected from the group consisting of hydrogen, -OH and protected hydroxyl and R3 is selected from the group consisting of hydrogen and R3', R3' is amino protective group which are useful intermediates.</p> |
