PURPOSE:To unify the temp. distribution in a roll axial direction and to eliminate a heat crown by forming a working roll at least of a rolling mill with a metal having a big thermal conductivity and by inserting with tie fitting a hollow cylinder enclosing a thermal medium in a vacuum into a hole made along the roll axis. CONSTITUTION:A thermal medium 3 is evaporated at a high temp. part 5 of the center of the axial direction of a hollow cylinder 11 and the generated vapor 4 is passed to a low temp. part 6 due to the pressure difference generated by nature and condensed with cooling. A liquid film 7 of the thermal medium 3 generated at the condensing part is then flowed along the inner wall of the hollow cylinder 11 to an evaporating part where the liquid film 7 is thinned by centrifugal force according to the rotation of the roll 1. The thermal medium 3 is thus circulated inside a cavity 13 of the hollow cylinder 11 with repeating an evaporation - condensation. The application for a backing-up roll as well is possible if necessary. |
