PURPOSE:To simplify a device and facilitate processing, and recognize and identify a body efficiently by displaying the distribution of respective feature quantities graphically, and selecting a feature quality used for identification on the basis of the display. CONSTITUTION:The video signal of a TV camera 1 is analyzed by a processor 3 and then stored in a frame memory 4. The binary-coded image data is read out to extract a specific feature quantity, which is compared with feature quantities stored in a memory 5 to find its coincidence, performing recognition and identification. In this case, the processor 3 reads data on the feature quantities stored previously in the memory 5 and displayed them graphically on the screen of a CRT6. A feature quantity to be displayed is specified on a keyboard 7 to display the optional feature quantity used for the recognition and identification. The recognition and identification are performed and the data stored in the memory 5 are transferred to an external storage device 8.
