An image device capable of setting a maximum time-shift region, and a control method thereof are provided to minimize a region of a memory which is not used and set the maximum time-shift region capable of efficiently using the memory of the image device having a time-shift function. A tuner unit(106) tunes one or more channels, and outputs broadcasting programs received through the tuned one or more channels. An MPEG(Moving Picture Experts Group) decoder and video/audio signal processing unit(103) decodes the broadcasting program received through the tuner unit(106). An image memory unit(107) temporarily or semi-permanently stores the decoded broadcasting program. A PVR(Personal Video Recorder) control unit(113) reads a writable region where a storing object does not exist in the entire region of the image memory unit(107), and resets the read writable region as a memory for time-shift in the entire region of the image memory unit(107). A control unit(112) performs a time-shift function in a region of the memory for the time-shift reset by the PVR control unit(113). |
