Benzoic acid compounds of the formula <IMAGE> wherein A, R1, R2, R4, R5, R6, R7, n and X are as defined hereinafter, processes for their preparation, herbicidal compositions containing these compounds and methods for the use of the compounds and the herbicidal compositions are disclosed. Novel compounds which useful as starting materials for the preparation of the benzoic acid compounds of formula I are also disclosed.
