PURPOSE:To execute easily and stably a scan in the vertical and horizontal directions of a laser beam by forming a light guide layer, providing a prescribed number of liquid loading parts loaded with a liquid whose refractive index is roughly equal to that of the light guide layer, in said layer, and constituting a vertical scanning means by providing a heating means on the loading part. CONSTITUTION:A picture display device 2 displays a picture by generating a laser beam 8 of red, green blue and blue from a laser gun 16, executing an intensity modulation for every color by a modulator 18, and irradiating the laser beam 8 on a prescribed position of a scanning panel 20 by a horizontal scanning means 4 and a vertical scanning means 6. The horizontal scanning means 4 executes a scan by utilizing a longitudinal wave or a transversal wave of an ultrasonic wave. In the vertical scanning means 6, a liquid loading part 24 of a trapezoidal section of a guide layer 10 is filled with a liquid whose refractive index is equal to that of the layer 10, and a heating means 26 is provided on the back. When a vertical scanning current is applied to an electrode connected to the means 26, the liquid generates air foams 30, and light which has been made incident from the means 24 is deflected by 90 deg. and irradiates the panel 20. |
