NEW MATERIAL:The hepatic cell proliferation factor having the following properties. Molecular weight, 20,000; free from the characteristics of polysaccharides and glycoproteins; free from species specificity to animal; high thermal stability; exhibits similar culturing effect as bovine-originated fetus serum, quasi-fetus serum or calf serum in the culture of other tissue cells). USE:Agent for promoting hepatic function. PREPARATION:The epithelial mucous tissue of the intestine of a warm-blooded animal (e.g. rat, mouse, chicken, etc.) is homogenized in a salt solution free from Ca and preferably Mg (e.g. Tyrode's solution) at 0-2 deg.C, and the supernatant liquid is separated from the homogenate by centrifugal separation, etc. The supernatant liquid is dialyzed with the above salt solution to remove the low-molecular weight components, and the obtained fraction is subjected to the gel-filtration and the ion-exchange chromatography to obtain the objective hepatic cell proliferation factor.
