PURPOSE:To effectively utilize the thermal energy of a combustion gas, by a construction wherein a combustion chamber is provided in a hot water storing tank provided with a water-supplying port at a lower part thereof, an exhaust passage communicated with an exhaust port of the combustion chamber is provided along an upper part and a lower part of the tank, and a water passage is provided in the exhaust passage. CONSTITUTION:The hot water storing tank 1 is provided with a hot water supplying port 2 and a circulating water inlet 3 at an upper part thereof, and with the water-supplying port 4 and a circulating water outlet 5 at a lower part thereof. An upright combustion chamber 6 is provided in the tank 1, and the exhaust port 7 thereof is connected to the exhaust passage 8 at the upper part of the tank 1. The passage 8 comprises an upright exhaust pipe 9. An inner shell 11 consisting of a double-wall cylinder with an upper part opened is provided in an outer shell 10 connected to a lower part of the pipe 9, and the pipe 9 is communicated with a lower part of the inner shell 11. The inner shell 11 defines a water chamber 14 between the double walls thereof, and a lower part thereof is connected to the outlet 5 through a water pipe 15. An upper part of the water chamber 14 is connected to the inlet 3 through a water pipe 16. The water pipes 15, 16 and the water chamber 14 constitute a water passage communicating the upper part and the lower part of the tank 1 to each other.
