PURPOSE:To make it possible to arrange an accessory and a cam shaft on the same axis by disposing an actuating mechanism for cam shaft phase adjustment including a helical spline sleeve to surround the accessory that takes power out of the cam shaft. CONSTITUTION:A first helical spline shaft 6 is fastened by a bolt 8 to the end of the journal 4a of a cam shaft 4 supported on the cylinder block 2, and a cam shaft gear 12 and a bevel gear 14 for actuating a governor 20 are rotatably inserted around the shaft 6. A second helical spline shaft 26 is fastened to the bevel gear 14 by a bolt 16, and the shaft 26 is inserted over the shaft 6. A helical sleeve 30 is provided that has a spline on its inner surface which meshes with the right- and left-inclined splines 10, 28 formed around the respective shafts 6, 26, and said sleeve 30 is moved by an actuating mechanism 50 arranged to surround an accessory (fuel pump) 38 disposed on the same axis as and continuously from the cam shaft 4. |
