<p>An autoclave steriliser for contact lenses comprises a capsule for housing the lenses and providing a vapour-tight chamber in which a sterilising solution is placed. The capsule is received in a housing which includes a thermally conductive heat well. A heater is in abuting, heat transfer contact with the well. A thermostat contacts the well at the opposite side to the heater and this controls the heater to deactivate it when the temperature rises to a set level above the boiling point of the sterilizing solution. A pivoted cover coverlies the well and this may be locked in position by a latch associated with a bimetallic strip contacting the well at a position intermediate the heater and thermostat. This ensures locking of the cover before the temperature of the sterilizing solution reaches a dangerous level.</p> |
