<p>A gas turbine has an axial compressor (2) mounted on a shaft (1) which carries a rotor (3) with overhanging blades (4). A mixture of air and fuel is drawn in through the inlet (21) and delivered to an annulus (8, 9) in a stationary cylindrical block (5). Poppet valves (10) actuated by cams (15) allow the charge to flow into combustion chambers (6). The mixture is ignited by means of a sparking plug which causes a rise in pressure. The outlet valve (11) is then opened by the cam (16) and the gas flows out through the tangential nozzle (13) to impinge on the blades (4).</p> |
