The rotating machine has a changeover switch (10) which is used to switch the stator phase windings. While it switches the phase windings it maintains frequency and/or amplitude constant can vary them in a specified way. The changeover switch changes the machine over from operating as a generator with variable frequency and voltage by essentially constant speed to operating as a motor with variable speed but supplied at constant amplitude and frequency. The changeover unit is mounted on the stator of the rotating electrical machine.
