PURPOSE:To improve operability of a video camera for home use by storing video signals of the first object in a memory, reading out video signals of the first object stored in synchronization with photographing of the second object, and inserting the result in video signals of the second object. CONSTITUTION:When inserting a title etc. in picture recording, the title picture 2 to be inserted is photographed by a lens 3 and an image pickup element 5, and the picture signals are inputted to a signal processing circuit 7 and converted to video signals. The video signals are supplied to an A/D converter 12 and a memory controlling circuit 14 of a title inserting circuit 24, and the video signals converted into digital by control of the circuit 14 are stored in a frame memory 13. When the object 1 is photographed, and the video signals are recorded in a picture recording machine 25, the title picture is read out from the memory 13, D/A converted, and video signals of the title picture 2 are inserted and edited in the video signals of the object 1 through a switch 28 and recorded in the picture recording machine 25. As the lens 3, element 5 and circuit 7 are used in common for photographing of object and title picture, a small, easily operatable video camera for home use can be obtained.
