PURPOSE:To keep the amt. to be added of a powdery material constant by providing a metering device for carrying out a specified amt. of the powdery material in a feeder for supplying the powdery material to a plasma torch. CONSTITUTION:In a device 25 for confirming the supply amt. of a powdery material, windows 20a and 20a are formed at a part of an introducing pipe 20 which is inserted into a main body 28, and the supply amt. of a powdery material 5 can be obtained by confirming that the optical fiber 39 from a luminescent element 38 and the optical fiber 41 from a photodetector element 40 are faced to each other through the windows 20a and 20a, and measuring the luminous energy of the light passing through the windows 20a and 20a. An inert gas is supplied into the main body 26 through a pipe 42 for supplying a back pressure gas, and the pressure in the main body 26 is made higher than the pressure in the introducing pipe 20. Accordingly, the amt. of the powdery material 5 leaking from the window 20a is reduced.
