A combination of a number of devices making it possible to manufacture charcoal in industrial quantity by using timbers of great lengths in the proximity of forestry felling worksites and offering the special characteristic of eliminating the handling of the product between the loading of the timber onto a road vehicle and the emptying of the charcoal by the same road vehicle. It consists of a pyrolysis enclosure of low heat loss which can be easily moved by road transport means, of a basket for pyrolysis made of refractory metal handled by a road tractor, an air compressor with a heat engine and a device of removable ramps. The combination of the devices according to the invention is particularly intended for the manufacture of charcoal and for the conversion by pyrolysis of any hydrocarbon or lignocellulosic substances with a view to recovering metals and/or manufacturing fuel gases.
