发明名称 OPTICAL COUPLING STRUCTURE BETWEEN LIGHT GUIDE AND POLARIZATION MAINTAINING FIBER
摘要 PURPOSE:To decrease the man-hour of the adjustment of a polarization direction and to improve optical coupling efficiency by holding flat surfaces formed in parallel to the optical axis and polarization direction of the outside clad layer of a polarization maintaining fiber in parallel to a light guide substrate where the light guide is formed, and setting end surfaces in abutting relation. CONSTITUTION:The outside clad layer 13 at the tip part of the polarization maintaining fiber 1 is provided with flat surfaces 14 which are parallel to each other across the optical fiber and form two laterally long flat surfaces of the inside clad layer 12. The reverse surface of the light guide substrate 2 contacts the fitting lower-stage surface of a fitting base 5 and the terminal-side end surface of the light guide 3 contacts the vertical stage end surface of the fitting upper-stage surface of the base 5; and the substrate is fixed on the base 5 with the light guide 3 up. Then, the fiber 1 is inserted into a recessed groove aligned to the optical axis of the light guide 3 of the fitting upper-stage surface and its end surface is fixed with an adhesive while abutting on the end surface of the substrate 2. Consequently, the fiber 1 needs not be rotated and adjusted to decrease the man-hour of the adjustment of the polarization direction and the fiber 1 never twists, so the optical coupling efficiency is improved.
