PURPOSE:To increase the apparent density of a pasty active material and obtain a nickel-cadmium storage battery with high performance by using cadmium oxide having the specified maximum absorption wave number of the infrared spectrum as a negative-electrode active material. CONSTITUTION:The apparent density of a pasty active material is related to the infrared spectrum absorption wave number of cadmium oxide, and the apparent density is increased as the wave number is decreased. When the capacity ratio during a heavy-duty discharge was investigated using the infrared spectrum absorption wave number as a measure, it was found that cadmium oxide having the maximum absorption at the wave number of 800-1,000cm<-1> indicated the maximum value. Accordingly, if cadmium oxide having the maximum infrared spectrum absorption wave number of 800-1,000cm<-1> is used as the active material, a storage battery with high performance can be invariably obtained. |
