The present invention relates to a composition for preventing or treating sepsis or septic shock, which comprises Adenylate Kinase, Adenosine Kinase (ADK) protein derived from Mycobacterium tuberculosis as an active ingredient. The Mycobacterium tuberculosis-derived ADK protein according to the present invention is effective for inhibiting proliferation of bacteria and for removing endotoxin isolated from dead bacteria, and thus can minimize a side effect caused by antibiotics when used in combination with antibiotics. In addition, when the ADK protein is administered in combination with antibiotics, it is more effective for treating sepsis as compared to ADK protein administered alone, and thus is useful for preventing or treating sepsis or septic shock.
