The subject-matter of the invention is an electronic control system for the programmed feeding of the tool in a lathe for brake discs and brake drums of motor vehicles, the intention being to avoid spiral or helical machining grooves on the machined surface. According to the invention, an optical or magnetic sensor (5) is provided which can detect the angular movements of the spindle (7) and convert them into electrical pulses. These pulses are passed to a control unit (20) where two counters (14, 17) count these pulses sequentially in accordance with a program which has been entered via preselectors (15, 16) and as a function of the pulses ( alpha ) and ( beta ), which are intended to be achieved, ( alpha ) being the angle over which the tool is stationary and ( beta ) being the angle during which the tool is fed. The control and counting unit (20) emits signals only while the angle ( beta ) is being counted, which signals are passed to an amplifying and control unit (30) which supplies a DC motor (31) for the tool carriage and at the same time controls it such that the starting time, the operating time and the rotation speed are a function of the angle ( beta ). <IMAGE>
